We are beginning our work with argumentative writing and thinking this week. I'm going to apologize in advance to all parents because my main goal is to make your students question everything. That might really become annoying at home, but--hopefully--it will make them more critical consumers of text. That's a key concept in this course.
In the last unit, we picked texts apart and looked at the strategies writers use to relay their messages to their audiences. How does their word choice or tone or sentence structure help convince readers/listeners of their point of view? Students are getting the hang of this type of analysis...now it's time to focus on how to respond. Here's what you should be seeing at home:
